Amish Brown Sugar Cookies

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (220g) packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for extra flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  1. Cream Butter and Sugars:
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  1. Add Egg and Vanilla:
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  1. Combine Dry Ingredients:
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and optional cinnamon.
  1. Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients:
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  1. Form Cookies:
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. You can roll them into balls or simply drop spoonfuls of dough.
  1. Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set. The cookies will continue to firm up as they cool.
  1. Cool:
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
